Adelsdorf Castle

Highlight • Castle

Around 1120, a water castle was built in Adelsdorf. It stood next to the old parish church on the Aischwiesen, was destroyed in 1430 in the Hussite War and repeatedly damaged in the Peasants' War in 1525 and in the subsequent war turmoil. By 1666 at the latest, it was leveled. In 1592, the Stiebars built the original horseshoe-shaped castle that still exists today. In 1826, the middle section was provided with a stepped gable. In 1836 the dilapidated right wing of the castle was demolished. The twelve curved St. Andrew's crosses in the half-timbered gable should not only be decorative but also deter evil spirits.

In the past, a white woman was said to have dealt with the rooms of the castle: in 1736, a peddler from Fürth had been charged with a minor theft and had been killed in the castle by lashes.

In 1993, the castle was acquired by the community Adelsdorf. Several times a year exhibitions are held there.

St Stephen's Catholic Church (Adelsdorf)

Highlight • Religious Site

The originally Romanesque church in Adelsdorf goes back to an "own church" owned by the lords of Othlohesdorf. It stood in what is now the cemetery and was probably a "choir tower church" from the Staufer period, a fortified church with a strong wall.
She was to St. Stephen and St. Consecrated to Sebastian, with the former being considered the main patron. In 1908 the architect F.Fuchsenberger built today's St. Stephen's Church in the form of a basilica (3 naves with barrel vaults). On the long walls of the side aisles are baroque altars that were taken from the old church, including the Anna Selbdritt altar (around 1480) and the Mater Dolorosa altar (16th century). The Romanesque church burned down in 1929.

Unfortunately the door was locked. The Kappl is directly on the left in front of the archway.

Neuhaus Moated Castle

Highlight • Castle

The water castle Neuhaus (from Crailsheimsches lock) goes in its present appearance largely back to the beginning of the 17th century; but you can also find much older buildings (tower, chapel). The site was protected by ponds and ditches and by a drawbridge. The castle is still private property of the family of Crailsheim and can not be visited.
