The Irish-born writer and literary scholar Clive Staples Lewis (1898–1963), author of the fantasy series „The Chronicles of Narnia“ (awarded the Carnegie Medal for Children's Books for the last volume in 1956), found his way to Christianity only after a phase of atheism and materialism. In front of this small, sacred monument here, in the form of a wayside cross/field cross, I quote an important sentence by C. S. Lower Market Fountain with St. Joseph Statue

The fountain in the middle of the lower market square (1790) with the figure of Saint Joseph comes from the Schönthal monastery. The octagonal fountain was brought to Waldmünchen during the secularization at the beginning of the 19th century. The column and the figure were only installed in the 19th century.
