Beilstein

Highlight • Settlement

The city has one of the best preserved historic sites on the Moselle and is therefore also referred to as a miniature Rothenburg or "Sleeping Beauty of the Moselle".

The old town center, with its narrow streets and half-timbered houses,
is absolutely worth seeing.
Above the town lies the ruins of Metternich Castle, with a beautiful view of the Moselle valley.

The town has a jetty where various excursion boats dock.

Iron Mast Viewpoint

Highlight • Viewpoint

The "Iron Pole" is a sawed-off power pole that was replaced by a new one further back. Nevertheless, the power line has now been shut down and the cables no longer lead anywhere. The foundation of the old mast was converted into a viewing platform.

Cochem Old Town

Highlight • Settlement

In the old town of Cochem are many beautiful half-timbered houses, which are almost all restored. Large parts of the city wall are still in existence and above all rises the imperial castle Cochem in the south. You should use this backdrop and pause for an espresso or a delicious Mosel wine in front of the interesting town hall.

June 29, 2024,🇩🇪Moselsteig Etappe 18: Beilstein – Cochem
Back in Germany 😊 Great hike - highly recommended. Charming towns, woods, streams, wineyards, river views. Very hot - so water, sun protection & sturdy shoes recommended.
I parked in the P+R parking lot behind Cochem train station – €3 for a day ticket. From there, I took bus 712 (runs every 30 minutes) to Beilstein, where the actual hike began.

The stage isn't particularly long, but some steep climbs require stamina, but they reward you with spectacular views of the Moselle and varied paths through nature. …

This stage has a good chance of remaining in my memory as the most beautiful on the Moselsteig.😀 At the beginning, I took my time to admire Beilstein, this time in daylight. The charming town, nicknamed the "Sleeping Beauty of the Moselle", deserved more than a hurried pass-through from the end of the last tour. I also particularly liked the …

Unfortunately, the main path was closed just before Cochem and I had to get off earlier and walk along the Moselle. With today's stage I hiked the entire Moselsteig Trail. 😊

One of the most beautiful stages, many single trails in the forest right through the vines...

Unfortunately, the trail was closed at the end of the tour due to rockfall, and I had to use the Mosel Cycle Path instead.

Nevertheless, it was a fantastic and varied tour through the steep vineyards, through the forest, and with some strenuous climbs.

So today is the last day of our magnificent Moselsteig hike! The Moselsteig doesn't make it easy for me to part with it! It combines nice places, fantastic panoramic views, adventurous, very demanding, even alpine paths, and well-developed hiking trails with perfect infrastructure. One thing is certain, I want to hike the remaining stages too! It rightly calls itself a …

Visited the MOSELSTEIG with friends again after a year break. A following stage, our sixth from Koblenz, which is beautiful and demanding. Parked in Cochem, then took the bus to Ellenz (no train runs here) and took the ferry over to Beilstein to the starting point.
