A variety of great hiking trails. The leaves are particularly colorful in autumn. In combination with the sun, nature shows itself at its most beautiful. An absolute highlight and a must for every hiking enthusiast.

Askanier Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

For me, the Werbellinkanal is the absolute highlight. If you are there at the right time of year and the sun is shining optimally through the forest, the Werbellink Canal glows emerald green.

Canal-side hiking trail to Eichhorst

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

My tip for hikers, be sure to walk to the right of the canal. Since it is a forest path, no cyclists get lost here, for which you have to jump into the bushes if you want to overtake. Perfectly solved, to the left of the canal the cyclists and quite idyllic to hike.

Askanierturm at Lake Werbellin

Highlight • Monument

Its roof gleams from the Werbellinsee through the green and magically it stands on the southern tip of the Werbellinsees, where once the Ascanian castle Werbellin should have been.
It is believed that it was built between 1211 and 1215 under Margrave Albrecht II. The excavation work on the canal in the 18th century found remains of the walls and weapons.
The idea to build a tower at this historic place came from the Joachimsthaler homeland poet Friedrich Brunold. Prince Carl von Preußen took up the idea and entrusted the Eberswalde master builder Oskar Büschner with the execution. This designed the round tower of fieldstone, balcony and brick crenellated wreath.
In 1879 it was inaugurated. Since 1974, tower and castle are listed buildings. In 1991, the tower was renewed by foresters of the Schorfheide and reopened as a lookout tower.
In 2009 he served as ARD's filming location for the fairy tale Rapunzel.

There are many swimming spots along the shoreline hiking trail between Eichhorst and Altenhof on Lake Werbellin, especially here, not far from Altenhof. Some of the most beautiful spots are lined up here. The area where a headland juts out into the lake, offering a bit of privacy off the trail, is traditionally very popular. The marked swimming spot is just a short distance away.
