Innerste Riverside Trail

Highlight • Cycleway

Very good cycle path along the Innermost, with a view of the river. Nice section of the route Sarstedt - Ruthe, overall a nice part of this tour. Bike path is easy to drive on, paved gravel path with trees, no further level of difficulty.

Marienburg Castle

Highlight • Castle

Marienburg Castle was built from 1858 for Queen Marie of Hanover and is one of the most impressive structures in the region. Until 2020, it was privately owned, then a transition to the current Marienburg Castle Foundation was pushed forward. Coupled with this was the urgently needed renovation of the castle after 160 years. The castle is being extensively renovated for 27 million euros, which is why it is currently not accessible to the public. If the construction work allows, individual parts will be opened. The renovation measures are expected to last until 2031.

View of Marienburg Castle

Highlight • Viewpoint

The beautiful castle now belongs to a foundation and is to be renovated by 2030. It previously belonged to Ernst August von Hannover junior, it was built in the 19th century by King George V of Hannover as a summer residence, hunting lodge and widow's residence. Fun fact: only the caretaker lived here for 80 years!
