Popular daily destination or stopover on one of the numerous circular hiking trails in the Tennengebirge, as there is a great view and space to enjoy the afternoon sun. The ascent from Werfen train station is very long (over 1,400 meters in altitude), so it is difficult to combine it with one of the surrounding peaks at early sunset in November if you are traveling slowly and do not have a car to shorten the ascent.

The Elmaualm is located on the south side of the Tennengebirge at 1,533 m, under the Werfener Hochthron and above the tree line. From there you have a fantastic panorama of the rock faces of the Eiskögel, the Hohe Dachstein, the main ridge of the Alps and the Hochkönig massif.

The quaint and cozy cottage was built around 1860 and - even if you can hardly believe it - up to 20 people in the attic can be accommodated in the attic.
