The history of Schnellenberg Castle in the Sauerland was first mentioned in 1222.
In the 16th century, the Trutzveste Schnellenberg experienced its heyday after an eventful history: When the Elector of Cologne transferred the castle to Baron Caspar von Fürstenberg in 1594 as a fiefdom. Master builders and artisans from all over the world made sure that the property shone in new splendor in the years that followed.
Worth seeing are the completely preserved Renaissance chapel, the knight's hall with the wine cabinet by Johann Sasse, the court arbor as well as the chapel and museum.
Today, Schnellenberg Castle is one of the largest preserved castle complexes in Westphalia and presents itself as a place of stylish hospitality in a representative historical ambience. The first address for discerning guests who are looking for something special.
Thanks to the careful expansion by the owners, the Barons von Fürstenberg, and the Bilsing family, the fairytale castle has lost none of its fascination and atmosphere to this day.
