A visit to the Junkernfeld is worthwhile in every season. But if you are particularly interested in the checkerboard flower, you should plan your visit in the last weeks of April.
What is the Junkernfeld?

The Junkernfeld is an approx. 160 ha traditional grassland area that is bordered by Seevedeich, Herrendeich and Elbdeich. It is almost entirely owned by the State of Lower Saxony and is managed with strict nature conservation requirements.
The Junkernfeld lies between Hörsten near Maschen and Over on the Elbe in the nature reserve "Untere Seeveniederung". This means that special rules of conduct apply so that this sensitive area with its animal and plant species is not unnecessarily disturbed.
Therefore, do not leave the marked paths, be sure to keep your dog on a leash and do not disturb the tranquility of nature with unnecessary noise.
