Water fountain in Böhme Park

Highlight • Structure

In the Böhme-Family Park by the Böhme river, you can discover many exciting play opportunities for young and old.
The fountain is not only a meeting point for relaxation, but is also often used as a background for souvenir photos of the most beautiful day of your life.
The still operational water wheel at the Waldmühle (today a library) is reminiscent of old times when fabrics were fulled here for the partly significant cloth production in Soltau.
Those seeking tranquility will certainly also find a quiet spot in the park to linger.
Whether with a coffee or simply in a nature-close corner: nature can be enjoyed in many ways.
But "being active" is also emphasized here. Thus, there are opportunities in many places for all age groups to keep fit and in a good mood with sports and fun.

Breidings Garten

Highlight • Natural

Just a few hundred meters from Soltau's center, there is a 10-hectare “large garden” that was created by the industrialist family Röders from 1850 onwards - and which, according to experts, is unique in its diversity. The complex includes moorland areas as well as ornamental ponds, orchards and giant rhododendrons, an impressive garden villa and an artificial ruin. Source: soltau-touristik.de

Wacholderpark Soltau

Highlight • Natural

When the heather flowers bloom, the whole landscape shines in rich purple tones. Without the Heidschnucke's constant appetite for small trees, shrubs, wild herbs and the small, somewhat gnarled heather plant itself, these largest heath areas in Europe could not be preserved: the constant nibbling of the sprouts keeps the heath short, the nutrient-poor soil and the young heath can follow.

About 800 sheep, two shepherd dogs, a few goats, a shepherd – in this constellation, hard-working herds of sheep move across the country in the Lüneburg Heath nature reserve – apart from a few weeks during the lambing season. Humans and animals cover up to 12 kilometers a day, and their "workspace" covers about two football pitches.

Old Town Hall, Soltau

Highlight • Historical Site

That's not the Blue House in Neuenkirchen, no, that's Soltau's old town hall 😉

... in the past also called the Hotel "Zum blauen Löwen" (Blue Lion). The old half-timbered house on Poststraße was inaugurated in 1825. Soltau had about 1,000 inhabitants at the time (today it has about 22,000 inhabitants). There was a restaurant on the ground floor. In 1851, the district court and prison moved into the town hall. One of the first full-time mayors was the well-known heath poet Friedrich Freudenthal. Above the window in the small gable of the town hall is the old town coat of arms from 1388. The new town hall was inaugurated in 1981.

Beautiful route around Soltau. Although some of the paths are difficult to navigate, it's still worth it.

Today we cycled around Soltau. It was still quite chilly, but the cold wind was inevitable. Still, it was a nice, entertaining tour. Various surfaces, but nothing difficult.

The tour is easy and suitable for all levels of ability.

There are a few nice places to stop for a bite to eat in Soltau.
