Mylau Castle

Highlight • Castle

Mylau Castle is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in all of Saxony. Its history is very exciting, because the castle was already a noble seat, factory and town hall with a castle tavern. For several decades it has been primarily known as a museum.

/sn2_01.htmThe section from Mühlwand to Mylau (km 8.422 to 10.95) is part of the former Lengenfeld–Göltzschtalbrücke railway line (route number: 6667; see LMG). The Mylau Bad stop was located at km 10.18.
This is also a great place for cycling; see: bahntrassenradeln.de/details/sn2_01.htm

Egersche Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

One of the oldest bridge structures in the region leads over the Göltzsch. A Reichstrasse and Army Road, which connected Reichenbach with Plauen, formerly ran over the so-called Egersche Bridge. For information, the Egerschen Bridge was built for the last time in 1799 and bridge tolls were probably levied afterwards. In the 1980s a modern concrete bridge was built upstream, over which road traffic has been running ever since. After the flood in 2013, the Egersche Bridge can no longer be used for pedestrians. Plans for the restoration of the valuable cultural monument are in the making.

On the Göltzsch below, Christian Samuel Petzold also had another spinning factory built between 1811 and 1816. The factory burned down in 1844 and was burned to the merchants Petzold, Ehret and Peßler, who again built a factory here, this time for wool sorting and laundry. Spinning machines for sheep's wool were added later. After the company was dissolved, Peßler took over the factory alone and had worsted spinning carried out on modern machines. Especially in the inter-war period, Peßler & Sohn produced the most modern specialty yarns.
after 1945 the company was expropriated and closed as a textile factory. The buildings served as a warehouse and increasingly fell into disrepair. Attempts were made to set up a hydropower plant on the Göltzsch without the necessary permits. Thus the site remained in an unfinished, meanwhile ruinous condition.
