Ludendorff Bridge - a railway bridge in the city of Remagen (Rhineland-Palatinate), 325 meters long, built during World War I to increase the efficiency of transporting soldiers and war materials to the Western Front. The bridge was designed by Karl Wiener. Its name comes from General Erich Ludendorff.
During World War II, on March 7, 1945, it was captured by the American 9th Armored Division. It was the only intact bridge across the Rhine in Allied hands, and two attempts by the defenders to blow it up ended in failure. The capture of the bridge was called the "Miracle of Remagen". The Germans tried to destroy the bridge using planes and V2 rockets, but without success. On March 17, 1945, the Ludendorff Bridge collapsed due to damage - 30 American soldiers lost their lives.
These events were shown in the 1969 American film "The Bridge At Remagen" directed by John Guillermin.

September 5, 2022,Andernach nach Königswinter und zurück - Rheinradweg
This time not to Bonn but by ferry from Mehlem to Königswinter and back to Andernach on the right bank of the Rhine. However, on this side the cycle path is not so well developed. But it was definitely worth seeing 😍 God bless my friend 🙏

Today our bike tour went along the Rhine. We started in Bad Honnef and took the ferry across the river. Once we reached the other side, we headed towards Remagen. Then we went via Bad Breisig to Andernach until we crossed the Rhine again over the bridge near Neuwied. From there, we returned via Bad Hönningen to Bad Honnef.

Very nice tour. Start in Königswinter and take the ferry to Bad Godesberg and then on the western bank of the Rhine to Weißenthurm.
Back round in Andernach to Bad Breisig and again with the ferry to the east bank. Then briefly in Linz and on to Königswinter

We took the bikes with us with the intention of taking advantage of the announced nice weather after the mandatory event in Neuwied.

The compulsory event was over at around 9.30 a.m. and we were able to start at the Deichwelle car park.
As you can easily see from the photos, we started in thick fog. First we went on …

Since I've driven "my" side of the Rhine several times before, today after visiting the Arp Museum in Rolandseck I had to cross over and roll home on the other side of the Rhine. As you can easily see from the pictures, I was fascinated by Erpel, where I also stopped for a Kölsch.

March 6, 2022,Tour am Rhein
What a beautiful sunny day on the bike! Today I wanted to cycle a few kilometers and had chosen a loop between the Rhine bridges in Neuwied and Bonn.
It was still very cold at the start, around 0°, but the air was nice and clear and fresh. The route is also very nice for brisk cycling, there are not …

Today we went from Neuwied to Weißenthurm and along the left bank of the Rhine downstream - via Andernach and with a view of the vineyards - to Bad Breisig. Since the bicycle bridge is still closed at the mouth of the Ahr in the Rhine, we took the ferry to Bad Hönningen and continued on the right bank of …

Despite the midsummer temperatures, today we went to the Rhine.

From Neuwied, I initially chose a tour start that has often proven itself: across the Raiffeisenbrücke bridge to Weißenthurm and then downstream on the left bank of the Rhine through the towns of Andernach, Namedy, Brohl, Bad Breisig, Kripp, Remagen, Oberwinter, and Rolandseck along the Rhine to Rolandswerth. There I …
