Holy Spirit Parish in Tychy

The shape of the church, in the words of the designer Stanisław Niemczyk, symbolizes a tent - "the first temple of the chosen people". Others look for it to resemble a burial mound, or to a heap so characteristic of the Silesian landscape. The church is built of brick on a central plan, a rectangular nave is surrounded by cloisters. The whole thing is covered with a huge roof supported by reinforced concrete frames. In the middle of the roof there is a skylight illuminating the nave. The whole is crowned with four slender crosses.
Architecture is saturated with symbolism - various forms of the cross are hidden on the floor and walls of the cloisters, the motif of the cross can also be found in the windows, doors, and church fencing. The handles are shaped like a dove of the Holy Spirit (all details were designed by Stanisław Niemczyk). The vertical axis accentuated with crosses by connecting heaven and earth symbolizes the sending of the Holy Spirit. In addition, the vertical axis is emphasized by a stream of natural light that enters through the skylight in the roof, then passes through the glazing in the floor (in the presbytery in front of the altar) to the chapel on the lower level. The crosses were to be painted in four colors to symbolize the human races (white, yellow, red, brown) and the unity of the Church, but this intention was not realized.
The area of the day chapel (on the lower level) is 240 m², and the church is 1,425 m².
The architectural style of the church is late modernism.
The internal roof surfaces are lined with boards and decorated with a polychrome made by Jerzy Nowosielski (an outstanding Polish painter) in the years 1983-1986.
