Bridge Over the Soła River

Highlight • Bridge

The Soła River is a mountain river that gave its name to the Velo Soła cycling route. Velo Soła is an approximately 40-kilometer cycling route along the Soła River, from Rajcza to Lake Żywieckie. The route is well-marked and offers a variety of surfaces, from asphalt to gravel, making it ideal for trekking and gravel bikes. During the trip, you can admire the picturesque landscapes of the Żywiec Beskids and visit interesting places, such as historic churches in Rajcza and Milówka, forts in Węgierska Górka or the Żywiec Brewery Museum. The proximity of train stations on the route makes it easier to plan your trip and return.

Road to Glinka Pass

Highlight • Mountain Pass

Very pleasant driveway on the road to the border crossing between Poland and Slovakia on the Glinka pass. Initially, the road leads through buildings but after a while it starts to rise up through the forest to the border crossing. I do not recommend going further to the Slovak side, as buildings and not very good quality asphalt appear on the Slovak fairly quickly. The Polish side is much more pleasant.

Wędrowiec Combat Bunker

Highlight • Historical Site

"Wędrowiec" is a heavy combat bunker with resistance "C". It was armed with one fortress anti-tank gun "Bofors" and three heavy machine guns "Browning". No armored combat dome for the heavy machine gun was installed, but sandbags were placed around the dome shaft. The facility has 2 spare exits, 2 illuminating rocket launchers, hand grenade drop-off point, small arms shooting range and an optical communication station. Ventilation equipment, power generator, and headlights were not installed. The crew consisted of 4 non-commissioned officers and 14 privates, the commander was Cpt. Tadeusz Semik.

Currently, the "Wędrowiec" bunker serves as a museum devoted to the local fortifications from 1939 and the military activities that took place in the first days of World War II in the Węgierska Górka commune. There is an exhibition in the shelter, including photographs of soldiers fighting for Węgierska Górka, souvenirs related to the bunker commander - Capt. Tadeusz Semik, the typical equipment of an officer and non-commissioned officer, medical tools and materials used at the time, communication equipment, as well as weapons and equipment of soldiers of both fighting sides, e.g. rifles, helmets, gas masks, canteens, hand grenades and uniforms. Another attraction are the cannons and small post-German shelters from the time of the occupation, located in the vicinity of the "Wędrowiec".
