The American monument on Hill 204 near Château-Thierry is a monument commemorating the sacrifices and exploits of the Americans and the French during the First World War, in particular the Aisne-Marne and Oise-Aisne offensives in 1918. The monument consists of of a double colonnade rising above a long terrace, with two statues representing the United States and France, and an eagle on the opposite side. You can also see a large map of the area that shows the advance of Allied forces in 1918, as well as a table that shows directions and distances to historical points of interest. Jean de La Fontaine was a French writer. He is considered one of the greatest classics in French literature, and some of his fables are still familiar to every French schoolchild today. He was born on July 8, 1621, in Château-Thierry.

Here on the banks of the Marne River stands this sculpture, depicting some of the characters and animals from his fables.
