The Little Red Lighthouse

Highlight • Monument

Iconic building straight out of a picture book. Even if the approach to the bridge from here is a little complicated, the detour to the lighthouse is worthwhile.

Finally escaping the city, enjoy the non-stop ride along the banks of the Hudson River. To the north, you can either cross the river over the G. Washington Bridge and continue on the Jersey side, or continue through the Bronx to the Empire State Trail via Manhattan's highest point.

The Hudson River Greenway (HRG) is a popular 12.9-mile paved trail in New York City, offering a scenic route along the Hudson River and the west side of Manhattan. The section from Manhattan Valley to Morningside Heights runs through Riverside Park, a beautiful, tree-lined area providing great views of the Hudson River. This part of the greenway is open for both pedestrians and cyclists, with separate paths for each. As the trail meanders through Riverside Park, users can enjoy cherry blossoms in spring and access various amenities like picnic areas, benches, restrooms, and cafes. The path here is relatively flat, making it perfect for leisurely walks, jogs, bike rides, and commuting.

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

This route follows the Hudson River Greenway all the way along the west side of Manhattan. 100% bike path, no cars at all. It is a little less crowded on the northern section of the segment, but gets much more crowded in the southern segment. You have the option of continuing up the the GWB pedestrian walkway to ride across the bridge or continue north along the bike path to cross into the Bronx and take the empire trail as far north as Poughkeepsie.
