Mendota Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

This is a great trail for beginners and kids, because it's mostly flat; the biggest obstacle is a series of occasional muddy spots to keep you on your toes.

There's a lot to see, too, from the Minnesota River on one side to planes taking off and landing overhead, and historical artifacts in Fort Snelling State Park. (This trail is part of the park.)

Big bridge with a neat bike section mounted lower than the car section. Nice way to cross the river on a bike.

This highlight is more of a utilitarian highlight than a scenic highlight. It marks the eastern terminus of the Minnesota River Greenway which is a beautiful, paved bicycle and pedestrian trail that runs along the south bank of the Minnesota River between the Cedar Avenue Bridge on the east and the Interstate Highway 35 bridge on the west.

This section of the Mendota Trail, just north of the East Trailhead Minnesota River Greenway is really, really beautiful riding through the lush Minnesota River Valley. This great section of riding is on generally smooth, hard-packed dirt trails with little elevation so you can really enjoy your surroundings.
