The Montagnetta della Breda in Sesto San Giovanni is perhaps the most significant landscape redevelopment project undertaken by Parco Nord in the first decade of its operation, between the 1980s and 1990s.
A former storage site for "marogna" (inert waste produced by the combustion of coal in the Breda blast furnaces), the Montagnetta was later abandoned and transformed over time into a veritable open-air landfill.
The project to transform the landfill into a green slope filled with plants was achieved by shaping approximately 50,000 cubic meters of fertile soil and planting trees and shrubs.
