Chamonix

Highlight • Other

Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, Chamonix for short, is a charming town at the foot of Mont Blanc and has many surprises in store for mountain lovers. Because of its favorable location in a valley between the mountain ridges, Chamonix is a very popular tourist destination. It calls itself the "Mountaineering Capital of the World". The climb to the top of Mont Blanc, a trip to the Aiguille du Midi, to the Mer de Glace, the North and South Routes and much more are clearly worthwhile.

This statue in the center of Chamonix is not always well understood. It would be easy to think that the two men were the first to climb Mont Blanc (4810m) on August 8, 1786. However, one of the two is in fact the Swiss financier who supported the expedition, but who did not. has not climbed. The second mountaineer who managed to reach the top with Jacques Balmat was actually Doctor Paccard, but he is not on the podium with them ...

Belle Piste

Highlight • Other

A section of trail winding beneath the imposing granite ridges of Chamonix. The trail winds through the valley, with a coniferous forest towering above you. This section offers great views of the Aiguille du Dru, while passing near the Chamonix heliport and the Arveyon River.

This is a great spot for admiring the granite spire of the Aiguille du Dru and the majestic Aiguille Verte beyond. One of the most iconic aiguilles in the Mont Blanc massif, the Petit Dru is famously one of the Alps' six great north faces, along with the likes of the Eiger and the Matterhorn. Perhaps the most notable climb on the peak was in August 1955 when legendary Italian alpinist Walter Bonatti climbed the southwest pillar solo, a feat that led to the feature being known as the Bonatti Pillar. Sadly, the route was destroyed by rockfall in 2005.

A really great mountain bike tour from the campsite to Chamonix. Some rides up and down through the forest. Otherwise always along the river. Great views of the mountains and Chamonix. A picnic break is worthwhile at the hut Le Paradis des Praz. Very idyllic there.
