Guildo Castle

Highlight • Castle

The ruins of the Château du Guildo rise above the mouth of the Arguenon.
The castle was once the property of Prince Gilles of Brittany, whom his own brother, Duke François I of Brittany, had imprisoned and murdered for quarrels over inheritance and prestige.

The history of Saint-Lunaire goes back a long way, from its beginnings to the 6th century. But the aura of the fashionable seaside resort that the city still has today is more recent and owes much to the initiative of Sylla Laraque, a wealthy entrepreneur who financed the construction of the casino at the end of the 19th century, the Grand Hotel and many of the build magnificent villas, a power plant and tennis courts. Aristocrats, manufacturers and statesmen, writers, painters and artists come to Saint-Lunaire.

Baie de la Fresnaye

Highlight • Beach

Located in the east of the Côtes d'Armor, on the Emerald Coast, the Bay of La Fresnaye is a foreshore of approximately 900 ha, favored for shellfish farming and in particular the cultivation of mussels and oysters. Its hydrographic perimeter is part of that of the SAGE Arguenon bay of Fresnaye, representing 20% of the surface of the latter. A flat and semi-enclosed bay, its relatively clear waters are a key factor facilitating the proliferation of green algae. Ulva type Ulva and other opportunistic algae such as Pylaiella littoralis are present and synonymous with the high trophic level of the bay.

The lighthouse (32.85 m) rises impressively on the up to 70-meter-high cliffs of the Emerald Coast and is one of the most famous landmarks in Brittany. The current tower was built between 1946 and 1950 and still fulfills its important role as a navigational aid today. The observation deck offers an impressive panoramic view of the vast sea, the steep cliffs, and the offshore islands.

Really magical today. We left St Malo, took the ferry to Dinard, fled the crowds and then branched off the small coastal roads (in fact not a lot) into small country roads. So we were protected from the wind. The Cape Frehel site is superb.
