Brandy Bottom Colliery

Highlight • Monument

Brandy Bottom Colliery is a former colliery in Pucklechurch, South Gloucestershire, England. It was a steam-powered colliery that operated from the early 19th century until the early 20th century. The colliery was located on the line of the Dramway, a horse-drawn railway that was used to transport coal from the Coalpit Heath area to Bristol.

The earliest written record of Brandy Bottom Colliery dates from 1837, when a shaft was sunk at the site. The colliery was owned by a number of different companies over the years, including the East Bristol Collieries Company and the Avon Industrial Buildings Trust. The colliery closed in 1936 and has been derelict ever since.

Brandy Bottom Colliery is a scheduled ancient monument and is a popular spot for historical walks and bike rides. The colliery is also home to a number of rare plants and animals, including the lesser horseshoe bat.

Hinton Hill Climb

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Starts off gentle then kicks up. Narrow little climb up between the trees. Not much of a view but it's nice an open once you get to the top!

Nice rolling generally quiet road back towards Pucklechurch from the East.

Acton Straight Road

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

A great section of very quiet straight road, which is slightly down hill (going eastwards). It's terrific for getting some speed up... a 20+ mph road for most cyclists and 30+ for some... without a tail wind!

Lovely stretch of fairly quiet road after the hill from Hinton. Watch out for the busy Bath road junction as you head east
