Highlight (Segment) • Trail

This trail, part of the Pacific Coast Bike Trail (PCB), is a fantastic, mostly paved two-lane bike route that follows Lagunitas Creek under towering redwood forests and runs parallel to Sir Francis Drake Boulevard on the other side of the valley. It continues south from the campground all the way to the southern exit of the Park.

The hiker/biker campground in Samuel P Taylor State Park under beautiful redwoods (the tallest trees in the world) is a convenient base which is always available without reservation for hikers/bikers throughout the year even if the campgrounds are booked out by car drivers months in advance. Coin-operated hot showers (50 cent for 5 minutes, but often the hot water is on free of charge so try it first).
It is located right off the bike/hike-only, paved Cross Marin Trail komoot.de/highlight/198015

Cross Marin Trail from Samuel P Taylor State Park Campground ( komoot.com/highlight/198026 ) to the Southern Park exit at Sir Francis Drake Blvd is a paved two lane bike trail following the old railbed of the defunct en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Pacific_Coast_Railroad along Lagunitas Creek through towering redwood forests roughly parallel to the Boulevard. It is part of the Pacific Coast Bike trail PCB.
Where it crosses Sir Francis Drake Blvd in the south it connects with the gravel trails to Shafter Grade, Peters Dam, and San Geronimo Ridge a little to the right across the road (see komoot.com/tour/13627077 ).
It also continues north from the Campground to the Northern Park exit ( komoot.com/highlight/198015 ) where it follows along Lagunitas Creek on Platform Bridge Road a little to the right across Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Or simply turn west on Drake to go to Olema and Point Reyes (see komoot.de/tour/13627076 ).

Redwood Grove Group Picnic Area

Highlight • Rest Area

This large group picnic area is a lovely spot under a shady grove of towering redwoods that sits along Lagunitas Creek. There is piped drinking water and restrooms nearby, and if it is not in use, it is an excellent place to stop for lunch. If you are bike touring with friends and wish to spend time here, you can reserve this spot through the Samuel Taylor State Parks' department website.
