Brama Portowa

Highlight • Monument

The baroque port gate (formerly the Berlin gate) was built in 1724 with the modern fortifications of the Szczecin fortress. During the dismantling of the fortress in 1873, due to its historical and artistic value, it was not demolished, as was the royal gate.

Elizabeth von Arnim Bench

Highlight • Monument

The ceremony of unveiling the monument-bench took place on September 29, 2016. The author of the monument was the artist, painter and sculptor Bohdan Ronin-Walknowski. The bench was placed in front of the commune office in Dobra. It was created on the occasion of the writer's 150th birthday. The monument was created thanks to the financial support of the Danish Oticon Foundation.
The monument depicts Elizabeth von Arnim seated on a bench, holding an open book in her hands. On the back of the bench there is a commemorative plaque with a quote from one of the writer's books. Old photos showing Elizabeth von Arnim sitting on a bench in front of the palace in Rzędziny, who was busy reading a book, contributed to the creation of the bench. These photos also served as a model for the creation of the bench.
Elizabeth von Arnim, née Mary Annette Beauchamp (born August 31, 1866 in Kirribilli, Australia, died February 9, 1941 in Charleston, United States) - an English writer of Australian origin.
The action of her first two novels ("Elizabeth and her garden" 1898 and "Lonely Summer" 1899) was located in the place where she created them. And it was the estate of her first husband (Count Henning August von Arnim-Schlagenthin) - Nassenheide (now Rzędziny, Dobra commune near Szczecin). She described their common home, i.e. the local palace, called by the locals 'the castle' (it does not currently exist - it did not survive the turmoil of war, specifically the Allied air raids of 1944) together with the garden that she founded herself, or rather "from scratch" (of course in English style). In her novels, she also described the village of Boeck (Buk) and the church there, where she attended services (and as heirs to a local estate, the von Arnim family had "an isolated box with a room at the back" in this establishment, as she herself described).
In Buk and Dobra, there are two, according to the local rumor, the only monuments in the world to Countess von Arnim.

Buk–Łęgi Bike Path

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Quite an old asphalt bicycle path from the town of Buk to the village of Łęgi (at the intersection of the Buk-Stolec bicycle path). Along the way, there are numerous resting places in the form of benches (every 200 m) and 3 large parking spaces in the form of large shelters. Very picturesque landscapes of the Dobra commune. We drive through fields and forests. The road already requires major renovation. There are numerous places with ripples generated by the roots.

Parish of Our Lady Queen of the World in Dobra Szczecińska
A stone and brick temple with simple architecture (without a tower and a separate chancel), the only relic of the medieval buildings of the village of Dobra. The church was built around 1270 from granite cubes. At the north-east corner, it had a sacristy, which no longer exists (a trace of it is a rare corner buttress). In 1770, a porch was added to the southern wall and the windows in the chancel (on the eastern wall) were rebuilt, and the interior of the temple was covered with a wooden beam ceiling. In 1875, brick, stepped finials of the gable walls were built, the windows on the side walls of the nave were rebuilt and enlarged, and a porch similar to the one at the south wall was added to the northern wall. The church was renovated in the second half of the 20th century.

Szczecin Philharmonic Hall

Highlight • Monument

The new headquarters of the Philharmonic in Szczecin is one of the most modern buildings in Poland, which has already become a contemporary icon of architecture. It is distinguished by its extremely original, soaring shape, designed by Spanish architects from the Barozzi Veiga studio from Barcelona.
The building, which was erected on the site of the pre-war Concert House - Konzerthaus, combines history and modernity, inspired by the former location and historical buildings. The Philharmonic draws on the European tradition of concert halls and houses.
The building is distinguished by its boldness and lightness, but at the same time it creates a coherent line with the neo-Gothic buildings of the surroundings. The building's innovation is not limited only to the visual aspect - the Philharmonic is also an interdisciplinary art center and a multifunctional cultural institution.
The interior of the philharmonic hall covers over 12,000 square meters of space, spread over four floors, and includes, among others: a symphony hall, a chamber hall, rehearsal rooms, a music shop, a café and a spacious foyer.
The Symphony Hall, also called the Solar Hall, can accommodate an audience of 953 people. The excellent acoustics of the Solar Room come from the special geometry of the walls and ceilings. All parameters of the symphony hall (power, sound uniformity, delay time and side reflection coefficient) produce an effect comparable to a model of this type of implementation - the Musikverein concert hall in Vienna.
In the chamber hall - designed for 192 people - the reverberation time is as designed to one hundredth of a second. That is why this hall has been called an "acoustic gem".

Dobra-Łęgi bike route under renovation. It will be smooth. 😁 The roundabout to Bartoszewo is still impassable on the path but relatively safe behind the car traffic at the traffic lights. It already looks nice here too
