Right next to the High Bridge, on the eastern side of Czarna Hańcza, is this wide forest trail, easy to walk and quiet, and the forest is beautiful. There will certainly be some cyclists here, but for walkers it's a beautiful piece with trees.

Camaldolese Monastery in Wigry

Highlight • Religious Site

The Camaldolese Order (a Benedictine monastic order of pontifical right founded by Saint Romuald of Ravenna in 1012) was responsible for the creation of this monastery on the island of Wigry. This congregation settled here in 1668.

After the Third Partition of Poland in 1796, the Prussian authorities confiscated the Camaldolese estates, and in 1800, the monks were expelled from Wigry. The buildings subsequently suffered extensive damage, particularly during World War II. It was only after the conflict that reconstruction of the monastery began. In 1999, the Diocese of Wigry hosted Pope John Paul II. A small museum is dedicated to him.

Wigry National Park

Highlight • Natural Monument

The landscape of this beautiful place was shaped during the Baltic Sea glaciation period, when for a long period the glacier covered the northern part of what is now Wigry National Park. The southern part was a place of accumulation of materials from the movement of the ice. There are large moraines and numerous lakes and small pools of water. No less than 42 lakes are distributed throughout. The largest being Lake Wigry, with an area of 2,187 hectares. It occupies the central part of the park.
