St. Bartholomew's Church

Highlight • Religious Site

The current church is the fourth structure built on this site. In 1770, the tower of the wooden temple was demolished and a new one was built in its place. In 1776, the body of the previous building was demolished and a new, brick one was built. On October 20 of the same year, the church was consecrated by Father Tomasz Trzebień, Dean of Pszczyna. In 1833, the sacristy and chapel of St. Barbara were built. In 1845, the temple burned down in a fire along with the city. After collecting funds for reconstruction, the ashes were demolished and construction work began on June 14, 1851. The architect was the royal building inspector Józef Linke from Racibórz, and Augustyn Kern from Gliwice was appointed construction manager. On May 29, 1859, Wrocław's auxiliary bishop Bernard Bogedain consecrated the new church. During World War II, a shell partially damaged the church.

Bieruń Stary – Market Square

Highlight • Settlement

Bieruń is an industrial city with a population of approximately 20,000, situated on the left bank of the Vistula River - in a place where the state border has run for centuries. The city boasts of its roots going deep into the past - the first certain mentions of the settlement come from the medieval times, but the tradition places the beginnings of Bieruń even further back. Bieruń was granted city rights in the 14th century, and later lost and regained them several times. The medieval urban layout of Bieruń Stary with a square square and a network of streets leading from it has been preserved to this day.
The settlement was located on the old Kraków-Wrocław trade route.
