Brigands’ Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

Most Zbójników is one of the characteristic crossings over the Grajcarek stream in Szczawnica, located along the popular Promenada nad Grajcarkiem.

Here is the most important information about this place:

Location: It is located in the pedestrian-bicycle path along the Grajcarek, connecting the banks of the stream in the lower part of the town (towards the mouth of the Grajcarek into the Dunajec).

Name and symbolism: The name officially given to the crossing refers to local folklore and stories about the Pieniny highlanders (zbójnicy), who, according to legends, roamed these areas.

Neighboring bridges: Along the promenade, there is a series of thematically named bridges - next to Most Zbójników, walkers pass, among others, Most Zakochanych (Lovers' Bridge), Most Michała Słowika-Dzwona, and Most Flisaków (Rafters' Bridge).

Mountain landmark: In hiking tourism, "Szczawnica, Most Zbójników" also functions as a trail junction name (approx. 436 m a.s.l.), from where you can set off on the green trail towards the Pieniny.

As you can see in the photo from July 1997, there was a border fence in this place, which made it impossible to cross the Polish-Slovak border. Tourists who came from Szczawnica along the Dunajec River were forced to turn back. This was the case until 1999. On the Slovak side, it was so much better that there are two roads leading here - from Leśnica and Czerwony Klasztor, so it was possible to return by a different route.
----------------------------

The Szczawnica-Lesnica border crossing was established on July 1, 1999, in the area of the border marker No. II/94, with the place of check-in on the Slovak side in the town of Lesnica for citizens of Poland and Slovakia and citizens of countries with which both countries had abolished the obligation to have visas. It was open at 9.00-21.00 in the summer (April-September) and 9.00-17.00 in the winter (October-March). The traffic of pedestrians, cyclists, skiers and people using wheelchairs was allowed. Border and customs clearance was carried out by the bodies of the Border Guard.

On December 21, 2007, under the Schengen Agreement, the border crossing was closed.
