Devil's Bridge of Dronero

Highlight • Bridge

Like any self-respecting city dating back to the Middle Ages, Dronero also has the Devil's Bridge. Legend has it that the Droneresi asked the Devil for help to build the bridge over the Torrente Maira. He accepted on condition that he was offered the soul of the one who would first cross it. The astute inhabitants of Dronero, however, when the work was completed, had a dog go to test the architectural work. The Devil ran away in anger.

Piatta Soprana of Montemale di Cuneo

Highlight • Settlement

It is a part of the municipality of Montemale di Cuneo. It is located in the highest part surrounded by a thick forest that does not allow you to see the views of the surrounding valleys. There is a beautiful church and a square with a fountain.
We went up here because it is a natural passage to go from Dronero, the beginning of the Maira valley, to the Grana valley... and because we saw that it enters the long route of the Gran Fondo Fausto Coppi.
The climb from Dronero is very nice as it is very open and with views to Montemale di Cuneo to become very closed, with a very narrow road with a lot of charm. The 1 km section that there is when leaving Montemale di Cuneo is the hardest, with slopes that exceed 10%. There are hardly any cars in the upper part.
On the other hand, the climb from the Grana valley runs along a very narrow road but with good asphalt that crosses a dense forest. It is a very hard climb with 4.9 km at an average gradient of 9.5% and ramps over 15%. It is quite a challenge to climb up here!!
