Bear Trap at Waldstein

Brown bears once lived in the Fichtel Mountains. This is impressively demonstrated by the Bärenfang, made of granite stones, from 1656 below the Waldstein summit. The last bear is said to have been caught here in 1760. Nine years later, the last conspecific from the Fichtelgebirge near Vordorf was shot.

Waldsteinburg (Red Castle)
