The orchards stretch across the entire Etsch Valley. Since there's little traffic on the secondary roads and the paths are in excellent condition, cycling here is a lot of fun.

South Tyrol and fruit growing
With 18,500 hectares, South Tyrol is the largest contiguous fruit-growing region in Europe. Six billion apples are produced here every year. Lana is the largest and at the same time one of the oldest fruit-growing communities in the country and is therefore ideal for a museum presentation of the topic of fruit growing.

Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary, Lana
A first church was built on this site in the early Middle Ages on Roman foundations. In 1492, the present-day late Gothic wall-pillar church was consecrated. Josef Weingartner ranks it among the most beautiful Gothic churches in the country in his "Art Monuments of South Tyrol". A work of art known far beyond the borders of the country is the Gothic winged altarpiece from the workshop of Hans Schnatterpeck. At over 14 m high, it is the largest altarpiece in the Alpine region and, with its 33 partly life-sized figures, was created between 1503 and 1511. The outer sides of the wings were painted in 1507 by Dürer's pupil Hans Schäufelein with four Passion scenes. Open only on guided tours!
The parish church of Niederlana is considered one of the most beautiful works of South Tyrolean late Gothic art, and its magnificent winged altarpiece by Hans Schnatterpeck is known far beyond the borders of the country.

Finally on the bike again... The well-known warm-up lap (although warm-up is to be taken literally in this heat!)
