Harbor of the old Saar barges

Highlight • Other

From the cycle path, you can see the old Saar barges. These were built between the two world wars. They were previously pulled by hand on the canals and rivers; they were said to be towed (hence the name towpaths), now rehabilitated as cycle paths.

The Saar

Highlight • River

The Saar is an emblematic river of the cross-border region that includes Lorraine and the German state of Saarland, to which it has visibly given its name. At this point, it is possible to observe it in one of the main towns of the valley, Sarreguemines.

Saargemünd (French: Sarreguemines) is a must-see. Alone the view directly from the bike path shows interesting buildings. The city is definitely worth visiting.

Dam through the pond

Highlight • Other

The cool thing about the Étang du Welschhof is that the path leads over a dam right through the pond. Further up there is a small floating bridge.

First bike tour for 2024 for us, mostly on French bike paths, which are 99% asphalted and in very good condition. Great signage. Saarland can take an example from the condition of the cycle paths.
