Gordes

Highlight • Castle

Gordes is a hilltop village that attracts a lot of people due in large part to its magnificent view. What is less known, however, is its part under the village: "The caves of Saint Saturnin" A real underground village.

View of Gordes

Highlight • Viewpoint

Gordes is a Provencal village located in the heart of the Vaucluse mountains. The high-altitude village was built entirely from dry stone and is one of the most beautiful villages in France.

From here you have a fantastic view of the old town with its Gordes Castle, which stands on a rocky peak about 360 meters high and rises about 300 meters above the valley level. The view of the mountain village is simply stunning, especially at sunrise.

Fontaine-de-Vaucluse

Highlight • Monument

It is in this village that the source of the Sorgue springs from the rocks, which is the largest resurgence in Europe. The underground river emerges from the depths above a dizzying cliff 230 meters high.

Its flow is enormous: it is ranked fifth in the world with an annual flow of 630 to 700 million cubic meters. The beauty of this natural site makes it one of the most visited places in the department. In the past, it attracted many poets and writers who came to meditate here: Petrarch, Chateaubriand, Frédéric Mistral and René Char are a few examples.

A word of advice: in the height of the tourist season, go and visit the source early in the morning, because the flow of tourists is also significant.

Super nice last MTB tour in the 2023 summer vacation. Vaucluse is a great area for mountain biking if you like natural trails that are rocky at times. You meet hardly any people on the trails and drive through a very beautiful landscape, with great views again and again.
