View of Mont Saint-Michel

Highlight • Viewpoint

At this place the view of Mont-Saint-Michel is majestic. We can see the new footbridge connecting the Mont to the shore, with the comings and goings of the shuttles. I recommend making a small detour of a few hundred meters to Ardevon. The view of the Mount is then unusual; one has the impression that it is built in the village.

The dam on the Couesnon

Highlight • Other

The footpath along the Couesnon to the dam already offers an impressive view of Mont-Saint-Michel. From here, the path with an unobstructed view leads across the salt marshes and the bay, with the landmark of Normandy impressively rising against the wide landscape. Especially in calm weather and with changing light, atmospheric views emerge of Mont-Saint-Michel, the course of the Couesnon river, and the tide-shaped surroundings.

One of my favorite views of the Mont because unusual. At this point, by optical effect, Mont Saint Michel seems built in the village.

Ardevon Priory

Highlight • Other

The Priory of Mont-Saint-Michel, located in Ardevon, 5 km from the Mont, is a built ensemble from the 13th century, which belonged to the Abbey until the French Revolution. It was the agricultural domain of the Abbey, and a place of rest and earthly retreat for the monks and the Abbot. Pilgrims also stayed there for their last stop before the sanctuary.
Adjoining the village church, the priory offers several old buildings:
- The main body devoted to the accommodation of pilgrims and visitors to the Mount, with a reception area, a refectory and a conference room.
- The tithe barn which has been restored to make it a meeting room
- The dovecote which has become a small oratory.
The whole, classified as a Historic Monument, offers the town of Ardevon a harmonious architectural silhouette.

From the car park, beautiful view of the grass and Mont Saint Michel. With a little luck you will see some salt meadow sheep there.

100m away from this picture (continuing toward Mont St Michel, there's a picnic area that's perfect for a quick bite and some rest)
