Troyes is located in the northeast of France, in the Champagne region. The aristocratic district lies around the imposing cathedral from the 13th century. Merchants and artisans lived in the market district of the half-timbered old town just a short distance away. The canals of the Seine separate the two areas and frame them.
Some roofs of the houses in the old town are so close together that even cats can get from one store to another. The alleys in between are therefore also called cat alleys.
