St Mary the Virgin Church, Bures

Highlight • Historical Site

Straddling the beautiful River Stour – and therefore both Suffolk and Essex too – Bures a lovely village. Its medieval church of St Mary the Virgin is a fine sight.

Walkers can refuel at one of two pubs – the Three Horseshoes or the Eight Bells – and find accommodation at the Old Manse B&B.

Hall Farm Shop & Café

Highlight • Cafe

Wonderful food (can recommend burger) in an idyllic setting. Outdoor seating, animals to keep kids amused (and adults) whilst waiting for food. Wasn’t a long wait though. Very friendly and there’s a farm shop here too.

Dedham Road

Highlight • Trail

Dedham Vale is an AONB that covers about 90 sq km crossing the Essex-Suffolk border. The River Stour winds its way through the valley, passing green rolling farmland.

John Constable often featured the valley in his paintings, to the extent that the area is known as Constable Country.

Some of his Dedham Vale paintings are on display at the V&A Museum in London.
