Scenic Downhill

Sometimes it is already difficult: stop and take a photo or enjoy the wonderful descent to the fullest. Of course, both would be best. But then you would have to cycle up the route again. But I can assure you: During the approximately 30-kilometer descent there is guaranteed to be one or the other opportunity to make a stop to pause for a while - even if only because the brakes have to cool down a bit.

Upper Sierra Nevada

Highlight • Summit

The northern part of the Sierra Nevada – where the ski area is located – may have nothing in common with the pristine southern slopes, but this region also has its charm – especially when the magnificent descent on smooth asphalt down into the valley awaits you.

Pico Veleta viewpoint

Highlight • Viewpoint

Pico del Veleta ("Weather vane") is the third highest peak of the Iberian peninsula and the second highest in the Sierra Nevada. Its height is given variously between 3,394 metres (11,135 ft) and 3,398 metres (11,148 ft).The mountain can be seen from the city of Granada. Veleta's northern slopes are home to the Sierra Nevada Ski Station. The access road to approximately 10 metres below the summit is the highest paved road in Europe. This road across the mountains from Granada to the western Alpujarras was built before the creation of the Sierra Nevada National Park in 1999. It has since been closed to general traffic beyond Hoya de la Mora, just above the ski station. However, the road is still used by ski station employees, national park rangers, observatory staff, cyclists and walkers, and a microbus service also takes hikers up to Posiciones del Veleta, a viewpoint 3,100 metres above sea level.

Sierra Nevada

Highlight • Summit

Sierra Nevada is the highest mountain range in western Europe after the Alps, with incredible Cols and landscapes to ride and the Europe's southernmost Sky resort.

The city center of Granada is just at 45km from the top of Pico Veleta (3.394m), considered one of the longest, hardest and most challenging climbs in the world, completely cyclable by this North side through the highest paved road in Europe.

The South climb to Pico Veleta starts from the village of Capileira, located at La Alpujarra. This off-road climb, without technical difficulties beyond the elevation and the mountain weather, includes some small shelters over 3.000m height (La Caldera, Villavientos and La Carihuela), although due to the snowfields the route is only cyclable in summer.
