Leaving Belluno, towards Feltre, four kilometers from the center a road diverges to the left which briefly climbs to the Col di Salce. In the small nucleus of Salce, at an altitude of 429 metres, the seventeenth-century Villa Zaglio and the coeval church of San Bartolomeo stand nearby. A short distance away is the eighteenth-century oratory of the Beata Vergine Annunciata, annexed to the severe seventeenth-century body of Villa Giamosa, in which the crowning tympanum is replaced by a turret. A little further on, on the right, there is the 17th century Villa Doglioni.

Church of San Gottardo

Highlight • Religious Site

The small Sanctuary exudes spirituality and suggestion; placed on a hill at the entrance to the Valle del Cordevole, it welcomed travelers and pilgrims from all over Europe with the adjacent hospice.
Currently the church is dedicated to San Gottardo, a Benedictine monk particularly venerated in German-speaking countries. In medieval times, these territories, crossed by frequented transit routes, were affected by significant Nordic cultural and artistic influences. Precisely the passage of the important communication route that connected the Venetian plain with the Empire favored the birth of the hospices of the Val Cordevole, and it is understandable that one of them is dedicated to San Gottardo, the founder of hospitable structures.
Inside the building, the oldest work appears to be an image of the Saint painted on wood in the first half of the 15th century, but the most precious is the beautiful altarpiece painted by Frigimelica depicting the Virgin among the Saints Gottardo and Brunone.
