Nexinger Switzerland & Muschelberg

Highlight • Natural Monument

>> Nexinger Switzerland

"The romanticizing landscape garden was built in 1802 by Ritter von Heintel, an agricultural specialist. In his time he ran a model estate with a tree nursery for vines and fine fruit as well as a silkworm, sheep and carp breeding.

At that time there was an orangery and numerous flowers, bushes and fruit in the park of Nexing Castle - four gardeners looked after the property. Since the inter-war period, the complex fell into disrepair until the Urani family reopened the garden to the public.

Of the staffage buildings from the first half of the 20th century, only a narrow, high corridor made of shell limestone, grotto-like parts and a bridge made of roughly hewn boulders remained. The wooded area partially serves as a game reserve, and so deer and roe deer can be admired.

A quiet and relaxing place, a different kind of show garden awaits its guests. "

>> Nexinger Muschelberg

"The Nexinger Muschelberg is the real attraction of the landscape park - a huge, approx. 12.5 to 13.5 million year old collection of shells from the Sarmatian.

It forms the backdrop for the bizarre landscape garden. "Geologists from distant countries do not know Austria, but Nexing does," reports Mr Urani about the uniqueness of the Muschelberg.

It is a Locus typicus, a location that is geologically unrivaled ... and cannot find it! A fossil miracle from a scientific point of view and also worth seeing for all visitors! "

Nexing Castle and Muschelberg

Highlight • Castle

Landscape garden with geological features
Nexing Castle, built in the English Tudor style, is located in the middle of the rolling hills of the Weinviertel. Right behind it is a romantic landscape garden that was built in 1802. When the garden was created, there was an orangery and numerous flowers, shrubs and fruit. Since the interwar period, the complex has increasingly fallen into disrepair until the Urani family made the garden accessible to the public again. "You could still see the paths, but they were completely overgrown," remembers Peter Urani. Grotto-like rock parts and a bridge made of roughly hewn boulders are still preserved from the decorative structures.

The real attraction is the Nexing Shell Hill: a huge, approx. 12.5 to 13.5 million year old collection of shells from the Sarmatian period. "Geologists from faraway countries don't know Austria, but they do know Nexing," says Mr. Urani about the uniqueness. “A fossil wonder from a scientific point of view and worth seeing for all visitors!”

The dried-out pond landscape has also been revitalized and is now managed by Mr. Urani as a carp farm. Visitors can enjoy their specialties in the “Oase am Teich” inn. Pretty double rooms or camping options invite you to stay longer.
