Hâble d'Ault 🌊🌿 Nature Reserve 🐎

Until the 18th century, the Hâble d'Ault was a bay that served as a refuge during heavy storms. As the bay was increasingly closed off from the sea by stones falling from the cliffs of Ault and the Pays de Caux, forming a kind of dike, the area has turned into a lagoon with marshes. About 200 species of birds live here, including ducks, geese and waders. Part of the lagoon is protected and owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral, the other 62 hectares serve as a hunting reserve. In June and July, when sea kale, clover and wild thyme bloom, the Hâble is shrouded in bright purple and yellow colours.

The pebble areas are home to pioneer habitats rare in continental Europe, and plants adapted to the absence of soil, such as the nationally protected sea cabbage.
