The bike trail follows the old tow path on the east bank of the Saône River, which becomes narrow and car-free, offering great vistas across the river to the handsome bourg (town) and castle of Albigny.

Fleurieu-sur-Saône

Highlight • Settlement

Worth stepping off the high speed cycling path to see the small town
A Gallo-Roman settlement, the most beautiful witness of which is an altar dedicated to Mercury, found during the demolition of the old church in 1884, and kept in the Gallo-Roman museum in Lyon, is at the origin of the village. We find the trace of this Roman origin in the successive names of the village: Floriacus (1228), Fluyriacus (1253). We find Fleurieu for the first time in 1657. In the Middle Ages, Fleurieu, like Rochetaillée, was administered by the chapter of Lyon under the suzerainty of the Abbey of Île-Barbe then, from 1396, of Count Amédée VIII of Savoy and his successors. In the 16th and 17th centuries, Fleurieu, although belonging to the Franc-Lyonnais, depends on the parish of Montanay, which is located in Bresse. fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fleurieu-sur-Sa%C3%B4ne
