Orsetti House, Jarosław

Highlight • Historical Site

The Orsetti tenement house is one of the most beautiful late Renaissance town houses in Poland. Built in the 16th century, it underwent a thorough reconstruction after its purchase around 1630 by Wilhelm Orsetti, an Italian from Lucca, who was already active in Poland (including in Kraków) as a merchant and banker. An upper floor and characteristic arcades were then added to the tenement house, and the roof was topped with an attic. It became the most beautiful tenement house in the city, its showcase, and it still plays that role today.

Jarosław Town Hall

Highlight • Monument

In 1782, the Austrians took over the town hall for military workshops and demolished two floors.

On the town hall tower there is a clock from 1896, made in Vienna, in the workshop of Richard Liebing. To get to it, you have to climb 118 stairs. After winding the cables on the roller with a crank, the clock can run for 36 hours.

Near the Jarosław City Hall in 1967, a mysterious discovery was made (...) on the north-eastern side of the City Hall, at a depth of about 1.5 m, an old road surface made of "oak boards" was discovered, under which "in a round-shaped pit" there was "collection of human skulls".
There were so many skulls that (according to the manager supervising the construction works) "two trucks were loaded with them). These skulls were placed in a tomb built for this purpose in the New Cemetery. The location of the pit was marked with gray granite cubes.

The former Jesuit church of St. John. Originally a Renaissance structure, it has been rebuilt many times. It is now the oldest former Jesuit church in Poland. It's truly worth it—a beautiful sight.
