Klausen Old Town

Highlight • Historical Site

Klausen offers typical South Tyrolean small town flair with its romantic winding streets in the heart of the Eisacktal. Klausen has around 4,600 inhabitants and is located at 523 meters above sea level - the medieval town is towered over by the Säbener Klosterberg, one of the oldest places of pilgrimage in Tyrol.

The Tinne Valley is separated from the Eisack Valley by the Säbener Berg in its initial area, just south of the town centre of Klausen, and runs roughly in a north-westerly direction. On the north side, above the narrow, partly gorge-like valley floor (hence the name Tinne Gorge), low mountain terraces provide space for settlement areas. The valley is really worth seeing and has a wildly romantic flair.

The Chiusa al Campaccio refuge (Klausener Hütte) is located at an altitude of 1,923 m among the pastures of Alpe Campaccio, in the municipality of Chiusa (BZ). It is located at the base of the Cima di San Lorenzo, in the Eastern Sarentini mountains. Originally a simple building used as a mountain hut, since 1924 it has belonged to the CAI section of Bolzano, which restored it in the 1950s.

It is open both in the summer season (from May to October) and in the winter season (from December to March). Easily reachable in about 1 hour from the Kühhof car park, it is a classic stopover for those heading to Latzfonser Kreuz.
