Tekbroek Nature Reserve

Highlight • Forest

The oldest green area in Puurs-Sint-Amands is a green oasis on the right bank of the Vliet, near the water tower. It is 17 hectares in size thanks to the municipality's strong purchasing policy. Nature development is central to Tekbroek. The green area is accessible to wheelchair users.

There stands a boy, small and still,
near arrows that indicate a direction.
But before he continues walking,
he considers where his path begins and ends.

The Three Wise Noses

Highlight • Monument

"Our three Wise Noses? These are three cast iron heads on pedestals, each looking in a different direction. They are positioned in such a way that their collective field of vision is 360 degrees. Together they can therefore see everything. The Wise Noses symbolize a higher authority that decides on to be or not to be, of life and death, of good and evil. Their will is law. And their decision is never questionable."
(Interview with Jos De Gruyter and Harald Thijs in PSSSt, infomagazine Puurs-Sint-Amands)

The Batterie is located in the former engine room, the room where the electric power was generated. Coal powered the generators that supplied the electricity needed for lighting, telephony and the operation of the gun turrets. A large battery, as it were, to which the entire fort was connected.

According to an article in De Standaard, the stretched-out Iron Figure by Mark Manders appears to be a sunbathing figure by the water.

The Breath

Highlight • Monument

David Altmejd creates sculptures that often blur the distinction between interior and exterior, surface and structure, representation and abstraction. He works extensively with the human body in relation to processes of decay, renewal, and transformation. His sculptures often contain unexpected materials, the combinations of which are fascinating, disturbing, or extremely poetic.
After each edition of the annual art route Kunst in Puurs KIP, a few works remain in Puurs-Sint-Amands. These works are now part of the municipality's permanent art collection.

Saint Peter's Church — 8th century

Highlight • Religious Site

Excavations carried out during the restoration revealed that a Carolingian wooden hall church with a semicircular sandstone choir, dating back to the 8th-9th century, was likely replaced before 1139 by a single-nave Romanesque church made of white natural stone. In the first half of the 12th century, a Romanesque tower was built on the south side, and in the mid-13th century, a Romanesque transept of white sandstone was added. This church was expanded in the first half of the 15th century with a larger choir and a west tower, both in Gothic style. Later renovations and repairs in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries shaped the church's current appearance, in which elements from various architectural periods and styles combine to form a harmonious whole.
