Peschiera del Garda Port

Highlight • Settlement

Peschiera del Garda is a lively and always on the move town. There are some beaches for swimming and sunbathing; or you can enjoy a walk in the narrow alleys of the center or along the port. The old city is surrounded by canals and you can tour on small boats to better discover the historic city walls. Peschiera del Garda is the only town on Lake Garda where there is a train station. The cycle path along the Mincio towards Mantua starts from here.

Beautiful city. Get out of the hustle and bustle and the pedestrian zone and get a completely new view of the city. Worth it.

Visconti Bridge

Highlight (Segment) • Bridge

In Borghetto there are still the historic buildings of the water mills that operated here. Beautifully restored, they now house hotels and restaurants. The area can get quite busy, especially on weekends, as it is a popular excursion destination.

Borghetto on the Mincio

Highlight • Settlement

Borghetto is a town in the province of Verona which stands on a ford of the river Mincio. In medieval times it was used as a toll booth. Thanks to the Visconti (dukes of Milan) the village acquired importance and a defensive wall was built around the town. The Duke of Milan, in a dispute with the Gonzagas in Mantua, decided to build a dam to divert the Mincio river and finally dry up the lakes around Mantua. The project failed and a wooden bridge over the Mincio was built instead.

October 6, 2021,🚵‍♂️🚵‍♀️2.Tour am Gardasee: Von Sirmione nach Borghetto
The start was in Sirmione and the first (near) destination was Peschiera del Garda. There we left Lake Garda behind and cycled along the Mincio to the tranquil village of "Borghetto" - the place where the knot of love, the "Tortellini di Valeggio" was probably invented. Borghetto is a former fortress village and impresses with its imposing ruins.
The next …

The sky over Lake Garda must be sad that I'm leaving tomorrow and said goodbye with lots of rain 😁 it was still great

Today a relaxed bike ride along the Mincio. Great to drive as the route is very flat. Münsterland conditions 🤗
We weren't in Borghetto today. It was just too crowded. No distance possible and we would only have been pushed through.

Our usual bike tour along the Mincio was on the agenda for today. However, we looked for a few alternative paths that were not paved but gravel. But you could also ride these paths very well.
The temperatures were around 22°, so ideal for me.😊

Today we started in Peschiera, past beautiful bridges decorated with flowers, very nice to look at🤩.

Then we always drove along the river "Mincio", fascinated by its emerald green water, past meter-high reeds, very beautiful.
Finally we reached "Borghetto", which is rightly called the most beautiful village on Lake Garda😍😍😍

It was nice😁

A bike tour on the east or west side of Lake Garda is hardly recommended. Either too crowded or on main roads with car and truck traffic, that's no fun.

Not so on this route. Asphalted almost throughout in mostly fair condition and away from traffic roads.

Today we cycled our favorite route from Peschiera towards Borghetto. Always along the Mincio.
It felt like there were 100,000 people on bikes on the way. We've never seen so many on this route before. So on the way back we chose the unknown route along the Canale Virgilo. A great choice. We were alone there. At the weir, however, …

Very nice tour along the river "Mincio" to one of the most beautiful towns on Lake Garda, Borghetto.
They are an absolute “must”.
Tortellini 👍"Nodo d'amore"🇮🇹 ,
