There is a lot to discover around the market place. Nice shops, idyllic cottages. In May 2022, the marketplace was redesigned. The Cittaslow fountain is now in the market square. Discreet and yet attractive stands in front of the Café Prima. It comes from the artist couple Gernot and Barbara Rumpf. Big different bronze snails attract attention.

Diedesfeld is the southernmost wine village of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse and is located at the geographical center of the German Wine Route, which is marked with a sandstone on the southern outskirts. Diedesfeld, located below the Hambach Castle, was able to retain its village character. The village's winemaking tradition, which is well over 2000 years old, has always shaped the typical Palatinate village image with restored half-timbering and warm sandstone walls.

The entrance building was built in 1866, it is a late classical building with a hipped mansard roof and a neo-Renaissance facade from 1894. Not far from the station is the well-known equestrian signal box, which is no longer in use. The reception building is under monument protection.

Old Town Hall and Fountain, Hambach

Highlight • Historical Site

The listed Old Town Hall in Hambach was built in 1739 under Prince-Bishop Damian Hugo Philipp von Schönborn-Buchheim, Cardinal and Knight of the Teutonic Order.
The design for the old town hall was created by the Prince-Bishop of Speyer's master builder Johann Georg Stahl (1687 - 1755), who was influenced by the school of Balthasar Neumann and the architectural ideal of the sovereign Damian Hugo von Schönborn. The basic idea was symmetry and a centralizing tendency.
The result is a two-storey, solid plastered building with a high basement base - because of the hillside location - and with round-arch openings. The ground floor and upper floor have corner pilasters and a cornice separating the floors. The rectangular windows with ear frames are arranged in an axial ratio of 7:3. On the gable side facing the market square there are three round-arch openings with keystones, one of which serves as an entrance. On the gable side facing the market, two shell niches on the upper floor house the wooden figures of Saint Joseph and Saint Nepomuk.

Horseshoe Sculpture Diedesfeld

Highlight • Monument

If you drive from Maikammer towards Diedesfeld, you will see a large horseshoe at the southern entrance to Diedesfeld.
If you stand at the right angle in front of the work of art and look towards the west, Hambach Castle is perfectly framed by the horseshoe.
The horseshoe motif has been used as a symbol for Diedesfeld since 1712.
