Schöntal Monastery Pharmacy

Founded as a Cistercian abbey by Maulbronn monks in the picturesque Jagst valley in 1157, the monastery has developed into a powerful and flourishing monastery complex over the centuries. Schöntal Monastery impresses today with its monumental appearance and the variety of buildings from the Middle Ages to the Baroque. The monastery owes its imposing baroque appearance above all to Abbot Benedikt Knittel (1650-1732). The new abbey, the convent and the monastery church, as well as the holy grave chapel on the Kreuzberg were created during his tenure from 1683.

Day 2 of our Jagst Valley bike tour. Today from Jagsthausen via Berlichingen to Schöntal and along the idyllic Jagst to Altkrautheim and back largely on the same route. We stopped off at the Klostercafe Schöntal and enjoyed some really good Maultaschen "Schwabenglück" there. And thanks to the weather app we were back at the starting point in time before …
