Ebrach Abbey

Highlight • Religious Site

great RR destination. There is plenty of food and culture on site! easy to reach e.g. from Bamberg (approx. 40 km of best RR paths)

The former Cistercian Abbey of Ebrach is a popular destination. With its wonderful rosette, the Gothic church and the castle-like baroque monastery are one of the regional highlights that are well worth seeing

The Cistercian Abbey of Ebrach was probably the most important place for the intellectual and colonization development of the western Bamberg region and the entire Steigerwald region. In the depths of the Steigerwald, which they reclaimed, monks practically created a Romanesque and from 1200 the most magnificent early Gothic building in Germany in the depths of the Steigerwald, as the art historian Konrad Dehio judged. Generous foundations and support from the Staufer kings allowed the new foundation to flourish and prosper. In the 18th century, the Ebrach monastery was fundamentally redesigned by Leonhard Dientzenhofer into a castle-like baroque complex, fortunately the Gothic church with its wonderful rose window remained. In 1803 the monastery was secularized. The wonderful wooded surroundings of the Steigerwald and the historical past of this site of monastic culture made Ebrach a popular attraction.

Spitzenberg Climb

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

A beautiful, mostly shady bike path leads up to the top of the mountain through the beech forest of the Steigerwald Nature Park.
In Ebrach connection to the Bahntrasse cycle path.

I have more fun going downhill on the road bike on the B 22 (Psst!) It meanders down the mountain in beautiful curves.

Ebrach Monastery Courtyard Waldschwind

Highlight • Historical Site

Waldschwind is a wasteland on the boundary of the Rauhenebrach district of Geusfeld in the Lower Franconian district of Haßberge.

Waldschwind is located in the far west of the Rauhenebracher municipality. In the north, the area of the district of Schweinfurt begins with the Wustvieler forest. Further east, along the Rauhen Ebrach, Geusfeld is two kilometers away, and Wustviel can be found even further to the east. The community-free area Bürgerwald in the district of Schweinfurt begins in the south. The district of Schweinfurt can also be found to the west, the Michelau district of Sudrach is closest to Waldschwind.

The so-called Ebracher Klosterhof still forms the center of the former estate. It is a long, massive building from the 17th century. In 1748 the courtyard was rebuilt by Abbot Hieronymus II. Held. A garden house with a mansard roof was also built around 1800. In addition, the courtyard wall has been partially preserved. The parts of the garden walls were decorated with classicist pillar portals.
