The Panhandle bike trail

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Golden Gate Park's eastern extension into the city has two parallel paved trails, the southern trail is pedestrian-only, the northern is a bike trail that also is used by joggers and walkers. In 2020 an additional bike trail is painted on Fell St, parallel to the park to create more separation options.

Golden Gate Bridge

Highlight (Segment) • Bridge

When you think of the iconic features of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the first things that comes to mind. This impressive suspension bridge links the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula to Marin County, with fantastic views of the city, marina and Crissy Field.

It is one of the most internationally recognized symbols of San Francisco, California, and the United States, putting it at the top of many cyclist's bucket lists. While crossing, you can gaze up at the towering beams above or look down into the deep waters of the San Francisco Strait below you as sailboats drift by in the mouth of the Bay.

Traveling along the Bridge can be cold, windy, and foggy, even in the summer, so dress appropriately. At the south end, you can purchase a souvenir at the Golden Gate Bridge Pavilion and visit the café next to the visitor center.

Restrooms are at both the north and south ends, and cyclists have toll-free access to the Bridge's sidewalks 24 hours a day. A bike ride across this extraordinary Bridge is an adventure you don't want to miss!

Muir Woods Road

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Muir Woods Road is a fun winding descent to Muir Woods National Monument and levels off onwards to Shoreline Highway 1 at Muir Beach from the intersection of Panoramic Highway with Sequoia Rd which climbs to the ridge from downtown Mill Valley. The intersection is commonly known as 4-Corners with great views of the Pacific as well as the Bay.

Battery East Road Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Battery East Road is the continuation of the well paved, two-lane bike trail that starts as Presidio Promenade from the Presidio Main Post, and is usually very busy with tourists biking and walking to the Golden Gate Bridge. It contours the former Battery East, part of the coastal defenses built in the mid 19th century to ward off intruders from the Golden Gate.

Winter in San Francisco? 😱
No way! Endless sunshine☀️, little wind and very moderate temperatures (today actually up to 20 degrees!) 😎 definitely make the excursion heart beat faster.

I actually have to work here during the week. But this Sunday there is still time for a nice road bike ride with colleagues. That's called "acclimatization"!!! ☺️

Once youve tackled the lights and hills of the city and make it to the bridge, the ride comes into its own. Lovely bike path the other side of the bridge and then the real riding starts once you head out of Mill Valley with a 4km climb, followed by an amazing decent and then into Muir Woods before heading …
