Cobblestone Path to the Altenau Viewpoint

Highlight • Trail

Beautifully laid out cobblestone path up to the viewing point on Altenau.

The highest mountain in Lower Saxony, the Wurmberg, is known beyond the state's borders. As is so often the case, however, the runner-up is in the shadow of the limelight. …

Wolfswarte - HWN 135

Highlight • Viewpoint

Beautiful view. Very demanding on the bike though. Very rocky. You sometimes have to push. The Butterstieg down the back is doable, but also very rocky.

Wolfswarte

Highlight (Segment) • Summit

This section is really beautiful. The "Obere Bruchbergweg" following to the southwest, on the other hand, is a bit boring and straight ahead.

Stamp point, refuge and rest area, memorial stone for fallen forest workers in the First World War, Harz water shelf with weir.
Definitely a highlight and rightly a hallmark of the HWN👍

Schachtkopf Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The hut has a typical resin construction. Hikers can easily assert themselves in bad weather. In front of the hut there is a small rest area right next to the Harzer Hexenstieg and the Dammgraben.

Today on New Year's Eve we went directly from our base camp in Altenau to the Wolfswarte, 5 km uphill 😅great. Wonderful view of the Harz Mountains 😍Down over the Butterstieg, very slippery at the moment, but with caution and sure-footedness it can be done.
Nice experience 🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳 Surefootedness, fitness and weather-appropriate equipment required 😉

The real reason for the hike was the visit to the Altenau brewery. The delicious cold drinks had to be refilled :-)
As the HWN 149 has been relocated, I designed the route a little differently than in previous years, next time I will include the old 149 location again.
What was much better was the snow. A wonderful snow …

Tour 2, on we went. The hike to the Wolfswarte was demanding, it always went uphill over stones, rocks and roots. The view made up for everything again. We went back along the root path to the forester Ludewig Platz on gravel and narrow paths along the stream. The last stamp for today long above Altenau and it went through …

We were already on our way to the Weserbergland to Hohenstein when we decided to go to the Harz because of the inversion weather. We also changed the winter hike that I had downloaded en route because it was boring and hopeless and spontaneously went up to the Wolfswarte via the Butterstieg. We did everything right!
