September 19, 2025,Eifel: Maare-Pfad | von Daun zum Schalkenmehrener Maar

The "Eyes of the Eifel" 👀, or rather the maars, had been on our list for a while, but we absolutely wanted good weather for our tour, which largely follows the Maare Trail. Today was the day 🌤 and we set off early for Daun. The official Maare Trail actually only starts in Schalkenmehren, which is odd, as it leaves …

It includes a unique volcanic landscape of Gemündener Maar, Weinfelder Maar - also called Totenmaar and the large Schalkenmehrer Maar Double Maar. The Totenmaar is also one of those "Lost Places", the Maarsee was …

A beautiful and varied tour. Great views. We recommend bringing a swimsuit if the weather is good - two natural outdoor pools in the maar are right on the route.

In Daun, we parked at the train station. It was easy to find, but the location was a bit inconvenient for today's hike. The starting point for our hike is about 1.5 km away.

The hike to the three crater lakes was fantastic. Beautiful hiking weather and a wonderful lunch break at a restaurant with a view of the maar.

Question for the Komoot community: When I record a tour, the recording often stops and when I start again, a straight line appears. Am I doing something wrong?
