Launiupoko Beach Park

Highlight • Beach

Launiupoko Beach Park is arguably Maui's most family-friendly beach. There is a protected wading area, large grassy picnic area with shade and, smaller waves. This beach is so popular that some families show up before dawn just to stake their claim to a spot. You can find potable water and a vendor selling shaved ice here too!

The Honoapiʻilani Highway, also known as Hawaii Route 30, is a beautiful scenic coastal road stretching 35 miles from downtown Wailuku, across the base of the West Maui Mountains, ending at Honokahua Bay. The portion passing through Lahaina is closed until further notice:

**As of November 2023, West Maui is open to the public; however, Lahaina is closed and off-limits until further notice to allow time for the community to heal, clean up and rebuild from the devasting fires. The Lahaina bypass road is open to allow visitors to circumvent the area. Please be respectful as you pass and do not stop for photos, as it can be a painful reminder to those residing there. After a successful soft launch in October, most hotels north of Lahaina in Kapalua began welcoming visitors, and the remaining areas south of Kapalua and Ka’anapali Resorts are now open.**

Road to Lahaina

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

This is a silky smooth ocean front road that has a nice wide shoulder and a pretty low speed limit. You will have a nice mix of exposed ocean views and some tree covered roads. Take note of the wind direction since this is an out and back, you don't want to get too far down wind and not be able to make it back.

Papawai Point

Highlight • Viewpoint

Halfway between Kahalui and Lahaina lies this fantastic vantage point. On the left you can see the Haleakalā and the south part of Maui. On the right the island Lanai and in the south Kaho'olawe. But why is the viewpoint so fantastic? This area between the islands with a max. Sea depth of 300m is between December and April (main time: February and March) a playground for many humpback whales and their young calves. You can see them jumping with high probability. A really great sight. One should not miss to observe these impressive animals.

Mala Historic Wharf

Highlight • Monument

Built in 1922, Mala Historic Wharf is a concrete pier that was ultimately destroyed in 1992 by the most powerful storm to make contact with the Hawaiian Islands. Luckily the warf was closed in 1955 as the island's infrastructure was good enough to transport crops without the need for the dock.

Today, the warf is now touted as one of the best places to snorkel on Maui.

Lahaina Banyan Court Park

Highlight • Natural Monument

Lahaina Banyan Court Park housed a 150 year old Banyan tree as of April 24th of 2023. Unfortunately the tree was burned, but there is hope it will recover!

This is a well shaded park with ocean views, shops within a few steps, and a plethora of heritage sites!
