The former town hall pharmacy was once located at Marktstraße 14.

The most famous pharmacist to have produced medicine here in Mölln was Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy.

Around 1800, he lived in this house with his family. Local folklore makes no mention of a specific Mölln residence for the jester. It must be assumed that the pharmacy and the Holy Spirit Hospital are merely literary elements from the book "Thyl Eulenspiegel."

According to this account, Eulenspiegel lived in Mölln first in the pharmacy before his death and then in the Holy Spirit Hospital. The pharmacy can only refer to the former town hall pharmacy at Marktstraße 14.

The half-timbered building was erected at the beginning of the 17th century on medieval foundations. The prime location of the house with a cellar within Mölln's topography suggests that it was originally the residence of a family belonging to the patrician upper class. Therefore, it is possible that the attribution to Eulenspiegel is based on a tradition that preserved knowledge of the "bourgeois" residence of the presumed bailiff, Tilo dictus Ulenspegel.

Historic Town Hall, Mölln

The old town hall of Mölln was built from 1373 in the brick Gothic style. In addition to the Lübeck town hall, it is the only Gothic town hall in Schleswig-Holstein.

The classic fountain and landmark of Mölln is the Eulenspiegel fountain.
Nobody likes to have their weaknesses, mistakes, and vanities reflected in a mirror, especially not by a fool. Till Eulenspiegel showed no mercy and, in particular, denounced the dilapidated conditions of late medieval society. He exposed self-satisfied citizens, the corrupt nobility, and even the church. The myth surrounding Till Eulenspiegel and his numerous pranks has persisted for several hundred years, although evidence of his actual existence is difficult to provide. The oldest edition of the Eulenspiegel book, by the customs clerk and writer Hermann Bote, dates back to 1510.

St. Nicolai in Mölln

Highlight • Religious Site

stands on the Eichberg, directly above the Till Eulenspiegel bronze sculpture. The oldest parts of the church date from around 1391 to 1470 and are Brick Gothic. The church was originally built as a late Romanesque, three-aisled pillar basilica. In 1896, parts of the medieval murals in the nave were uncovered. The oldest work of art is the base of a piscina from around the 12th century. The seven-branched bronze chandelier dates from 1436, the triumphal cross from 1504, the Coronation of Mary chandelier from 1506, and the Baroque high altar from 1739. The oldest preserved organ pipes date from around 1500. Overall, a very beautiful old church that is definitely worth a visit.

Till Eulenspiegel - Gedenkstein

Highlight • Monument

This memorial stone for Till Eulenspiegel, who allegedly died in 1350, stands here in an external niche of the church of St. Nicholas in the historic old town of the Eulenspiegel town Mölln. The stone is said to have been turned; the design of the current exterior dates from the 16th century and shows the jester with the artifacts that give him his name: In one hand he holds a mirror, in the other an owl.

The church stands high above the medieval town on the Eichberg.
It is dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Myra and is a landmark of Mölln.

Construction is assumed to have begun at the end of the 12th or the first quarter of the 13th century, since, according to the list of the Ratzeburg cathedral chapter, the town of Mölln still belonged to the parish of Breitenfelde around 1194 and is itself mentioned as a place with a church in the Ratzeburg tithe register from 1230.

The oldest parts of the church are brick Romanesque, the tower and south aisle are brick Gothic. The church was initially built as a late Romanesque three-aisled pillar basilica. The Altenkrempe Basilica may have been the model for this church building. The choir room was probably finished around 1217, when the Bishop of Ratzeburg held his first synod here.

In the second half of the 15th century, the church underwent significant renovations: in 1470/71 the south aisle was expanded in a Gothic style, and in 1497 the current baptismal chapel and the original two-story sacristy were added to the east. A chapel dedicated to Saint Jobst was built on the north side of the nave.

In 1896 the church was completely renovated. The Jobst Chapel and the upper floor of the sacristy were demolished, partly because they were dilapidated and partly to restore the overall basilica impression. The south aisle received a new roof with three hipped gable roofs, and the interior painting was partly restored and partly redesigned in the neo-Gothic style. Most of the neo-Gothic paintings were removed in 1959.

The tower, which in its current form dates back to 1391, was renovated several times and was provided with a supporting pillar due to the unstable subsoil, is crowned by a roof turret from the Baroque period.
